When people think of engineers, their perception is limited to the different services that engineers provide like for instance Civil Engineers build structures, Mechanical Engineers work on automotive, Industrial Engineers are plant managers, and so on. Little do they know that engineers take a very important role in research – Research and Development (R&D).

Engineering research is  the application of engineering knowledge and principles or the discovery of new ideas and phenomena either to add more to the existing body of knowledge or to refute previous claims. Often times, engineering research is for the engineers who are in the academe only which should not be the case because all engineers can contribute to the existing knowledge even through simple writing of their engineering practices, their difficulties encountered and solutions or recommendations to future undertakers of a similar project.

Since engineering research is thought to exist only in the academe, the research studies have also become most accessible  only to the academician engineers. There are a lot of excellent, replicable, and timely engineering studies which are valuable knowledge resource for engineers as well as for other disciplines that is kept in the libraries of universities while some are published in international journals or in proceedings of conferences. There is a need to come up with at least listings of engineering studies conducted that can be used as reference for future researchers, practicing engineers, and the society. There is a need for engineering studies to be shared to the public so that it can help improve policies, practices, and the whole society. Finally, once the public have known that a study have already been conducted then they can proceed to contact the researchers for further collaborations to apply the conclusions and directions established in the study.

The Philippine Engineering Magazine then, hopes to be the updated knowledge resource in answer to the identified need of providing lists of engineering researches.
